Wildlife Response, Inc (WRI) is dedicated to making training opportunities interesting and affordable for licensed wildlife rehabilitators. For the coming year, we are excited to offer the following seminars:
“The Effects of Oil Spills on Wildlife”, a Tri State Bird Rescue
seminar on March 3, 2007.
This day long course will cover the following topics:
CLASSROOM TOPICS:
*The effects of oil on wildlife: illustrations of internal and external effects on wildlife, and basic treatment guidelines
*Initiating a response: a mock “response” to an oil spill. This will help identify key people, how the State and Federal governments are involved, and just how much is involved with a spill response.
*Special Considerations in Treating Wildlife: the effects of handling and captivity on wild animals, and disease concerns
*Non Petroleum Contaminants
*Treatment and Techniques for Non-Avian Species
*Oil Spill Jeopardy
LAB TOPICS:
*Medical Care and Husbandry: handling and treatment, housing and nutrition, criteria for release techniques
*Cleaning and Rinsing Techniques

Wildlife Response, Inc is also holding its Annual Wildlife Rehabilitation Seminar on March 4, 2007. This seminar satisfies the VDGIF criteria for Continuing Education for licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators.
This year we are thrilled to have Janice Hughlett from the National Opossum Society. Janice will be presenting a 3 hour long class in everything Opossum - topics including everything from neonate care to diseases of the Virginia Opossum. This is sure to be an interesting class for everyone, new rehabilitators to experienced alike.
Additional sessions will include:
“You can lead a horse to water….” (Fluid Therapy & Techniques for Wildlife) This course is a 1 ½ hour accelerated course and lab in the selection and techniques of fluid maintenance in wildlife.
“Totally Tubular” (Nutritional Support and Gavage Techniques for Wildlife)
Another accelerated course and lab in the selection and techniques of nutritional support via gavage (or tube-feeding) for wildlife.

Where is this training going to be held?
The Virginia Living Museum is welcoming Tri State and Wildlife Response, Inc.
Where can I stay if I’m coming from out of town or just want to spend the weekend?
We will have a block of rooms reserved at the Country Inn & Suites
The cost of each room is a discounted $69.00 a night. The hotel is only 5 minutes from the museum.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the Oil Spill Course for licensed wildlife rehabilitators is $75.
The cost of the WRI Seminar featuring Janice Hughlett from the National Opossum Society is ONLY $25 for non-members. Members of WRI are admitted at no charge.
