Caretaker-in-Residence Search
Position Description:
Wildlife Response, Inc. is accepting applications for a qualified contractor to serve as Caretaker-in-Residence at the new Wildlife Response & Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This opportunity is appropriate for contractors with significant medical experience working directly with injured and sick wild animals and also extensive experience as daily caregivers to wildlife in captive rehabilitation settings.
The contract services will include substantial animal husbandry responsibilities, extensive medical work, administrative duties (record keeping and telephone work), and coordination with related agencies involving rescues, releases and transportation of animals. Day-to-day responsibilities will include feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring wildlife behavior and facility activities.
Wildlife Response volunteers may be recruited and enlisted to assist the Caretaker in all aspects of daily care, cleaning and feeding, but the Caretaker will maintain complete responsibility for all day-to-day operations. The Caretaker duties involve substantial physical labor (individuals performing such duties must be able to lift 50 pounds) in all types of outdoor conditions. Rabies pre-exposure vaccinations are required. A good driving record and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles is also necessary.
Qualifications:
Desired candidates will include mature individuals with the ability to handle physically and emotionally stressful situations, a demanding workload and long hours, and be able to work independently or as a team member. Virginia State wildlife rehabilitation certification in at least 6 animal species and at least 8 years of rehabilitation and/or veterinary technician experience is required.
