Mission Statement

Committees

WRI, Hampton Roads oldest Wildlife Rehabilitation Organization, was formed in 1992 by a group of licensed rehabilitators, veterinarians, and other concerned citizens in response to the increasing numbers of wildlife in need of assistance and the lack of people trained and funded to help them. Since these early years, a multitude of wild birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians have come into care every year and have been helped. Each year as the numbers of animals increase, so does the awareness in the community about how they can help.
Since we are independent of larger private non profits or governmental agencies, we are like the wildlife we successfully release back in the wild – on our own. However, unlike our wild counterparts, we can rely on an active membership to help compensate for the cost of running the organization.  Please see our "How you can help" section of our website to learn more.

WRI is an all volunteer 501c3 organization
